It has been reported that a drunken Turkish man joined a search party that turned out to be looking for the man himself.
Beyhan Mutlu, aged 50, was reported missing by his wife while he was on a boozy night out with friends in the city of Inegol.
After a night of drinking, the man headed into a forest where his friends lost track of him.
While walking in the forest, the man found a search party that had been organised and joined it hoping to help find the missing individual. It was only later that he realised that the missing individual was himself. He is said to have walked and assisted with the group for a number of hours before the realisation dawned upon him and the team, after one of them shouted out his name.
He was soon taken home by authorities, and he was said to have been worried that he had upset his family by going missing.
Such an event is not as unusual as what may be believed.
In 2012 in Iceland, a tourist was reported missing and joined in the search for herself. The woman had been walking in a volcanic region after arriving on a tour bus with other tourists. When she didn’t return to the bus at the agreed time, a search party was formed.
When the woman came across the search party, she joined it without realising it was her that they were searching for. It was only when the group returned to the bus and did a count of heads that it was realised that everyone was already there.
Authorities say that it is important to report missing people as soon as possible as the best chance of finding a lost individual safely is within the first 24 to 48 hours.
