Family Portraits of Children from Different Backgrounds

This gallery presents children from different family backgrounds. Its 2020 introduction incorrectly treated racial categories as evidence of inherent biological advantages; the photographs do not establish that claim. A child’s health cannot be inferred from the geographical backgrounds attributed to the parents or from a family photograph. The 2020 claim that being mixed-race prevents recessive disease and produces a more robust person was unsupported and is withdrawn. The gallery provides no medical evidence for such a generalization. Beauty is a subjective response to these portraits, not an inherited ranking that the collection can prove.

The following images are portraits of individual children. Their expressions, clothing and surroundings provide a more meaningful starting point than a claim of inherited superiority.

The child remains more than a caption category

The children in these photographs should be viewed as individuals, with identities that cannot be fully described by appearance. Their images provide no basis for ranking intelligence, health or beauty by racial background. The value of a family portrait lies in the people and moment it records, not a claim about superior inherited traits.

Each portrait is of one child

A family photograph can preserve a relationship as well as a likeness. The choice of setting, a familiar object or the person behind the camera may explain why the image mattered to those who made it. That context is often invisible to an online viewer. Respecting the limits of the frame leaves room for the child’s identity to be fuller than an appearance-based label, while still appreciating the portrait’s light, colour and composition.
