The most iconic artists have been immortalized on the walls of museums. Vans decided to change that by bringing the work of Vincent van Gogh to life in a very stylish way through its new fashion collection Vans x Van Gogh Museum, in cooperation with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
Four works by the Dutch painter, Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, Skull, and Van Gogh’s self-portrait, inspired items in the line. Along with the signature Vans shoewear, the announced collection also included shirts, jackets, hoodies and baseball caps.
The fashion line was announced for release on August 3rd, 2018 through Vans online site and in the museum shop. A portion of the sales' proceeds will be used to help with the preservation of the museum’s Van Gogh collection. Scroll down to see some of these incredible looks!

An artwork changes when it moves onto a garment
The four named paintings give the collaboration several visual directions, from the flowers of Sunflowers and Almond Blossom to a skull and self-portrait. Their motifs connect different items across the range. The announced contribution to preservation also links the commercial collection with the museum that supplied its artistic starting point.
The collaboration translates paintings into surfaces people wear
The Vans collection uses details from Van Gogh’s work on objects with folds, seams and moving bodies. A motif may be recognizable even when only part of the painting appears. Looking at the crop reveals what the designer chose to emphasize: colour, a flower shape or a familiar face. The August 2018 release date anchors these images to the original collection rather than a current retail offer.
