A 15-Question Reasoning Quiz in the Style of an IQ Test

How intelligent do you think you are in comparison to the rest of the population? This is a short version of a traditional IQ test with 15 general questions. It can help determine whether or not, you are of average intelligence, or much smarter than that! (Note: a 15-question online quiz is not a standardised IQ test and cannot produce a reliable IQ score.) Take your time and make sure that you read closely through all of the questions and possible answer options.

Is your IQ higher than the average person?

Quiz: 15 Reasoning Puzzles in the Style of an IQ Test

Number patterns, word analogies and logic puzzles, just for fun. Read each one carefully; this is a brain workout, not an IQ score.

  1. What comes next: 2, 4, 8, 16, …?

Each number is double the previous one, so 16 × 2 = 32.

  2. What comes next: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, …?

    These are square numbers: 1², 2², 3², 4², 5², so next is 6² = 36.

  3. What comes next: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, …?

Each number is the sum of the two before it: 5 + 8 = 13.

  4. Book is to reading as fork is to…

You use a book for reading and a fork for eating.

  5. Which word does not belong: apple, banana, carrot, cherry?

The carrot is a root vegetable; the others are fruits.

  6. All bloops are razzies, and all razzies are lazzies. Are all bloops definitely lazzies?

If every bloop is a razzie and every razzie is a lazzie, every bloop must be a lazzie.

  7. Mary is taller than Anna. Anna is taller than Sofia. Who is the shortest?

Mary > Anna > Sofia, so Sofia is shortest.

  8. A bat and a ball cost 1.10 in total. The bat costs 1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?

If the ball is 0.05, the bat is 1.05, and together they make 1.10.

  9. Which word is an anagram of LISTEN?

SILENT uses exactly the same six letters as LISTEN.

  10. What comes next: A, C, E, G, …?

    The pattern skips one letter each time: A, C, E, G, I.

  11. Which word means the opposite of "scarce"?

Scarce means in short supply; plentiful means available in large amounts.

  12. If 5 machines make 5 widgets in 5 minutes, how long do 100 machines take to make 100 widgets?

Each machine makes one widget in 5 minutes, so 100 machines make 100 widgets in 5 minutes.

  13. What is the angle between the hour and minute hands of a clock at exactly 3:00?

At 3:00 the hands point to 12 and 3, a quarter of a full circle: 90°.

  14. Which number is the odd one out: 3, 7, 13, 15, 19?

    All the others are prime numbers; 15 = 3 × 5.

  15. If today is Wednesday, what day will it be 10 days from now?

Seven days later is Wednesday again, and three more days makes Saturday.
