In an extremely bizarre outburst, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the 'deep state' and the Labour party will take the UK back into the European Union.
The Prime Minister, who recently announced his resignation after his own Conservative party turned on him following years of scandals, is currently awaiting a successor elected by his party who will become the new UK PM in September.
The statement echoes the conspiracy theories used by Donald Trump throughout his presidency and following his defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 US elections.
In his statement, he said:
"Some people will say as I leave office that this is the end of Brexit, oh yes, and the leader of the opposition and the deep state will prevail in its plot to haul us back into alignment with the EU as a prelude to our eventual return, and we on this side of the House will prove them wrong, won't we?"
Adding:
"There are some who say 'We don't need to make Brexit work. We need to reverse it'. I couldn't disagree more. Because you cannot move forward or grow the country or deliver change or win back the trust of those who have lost faith in politics if you're constantly focused on the arguments of the past. So let me be very clear: with Labour, Britain will not go back into the EU. We will not be joining the single market. We will not be joining a customs union."
Johnson was one of the key players in the 2016 Brexit referendum on the 'Leave' side of the debate. At the time he was a sitting Conservative MP.
Johnson resigned after scandals involving parties held at Downing Street while the UK was in lockdown due to Covid restrictions. Johnson repeatedly lied that the parties took place despite photographic evidence and was eventually fined by the London metropolitan police, making him the first ever sitting Prime Minister to be charged and found guilty of a criminal offence.
The Labour party have repeatedly said that they will not reverse Brexit if it wins the next UK general election.
