Central African Republic has adopted Bitcoin as its legal tender, according to official reports from the President's office. This effectively makes the country the second nation in the world to officially adopt the cryptocurrency following El Salvador.
Faustin Archange Touadera, the nation's President, signed a new law that makes Bitcoin a legal tender along with the CFA franc. Obed Namsio, the President's chief of staff, the use of cryptocurrencies is also legalised.

According to Finbold, the Central African Republic had already passed a bill regulating cryptocurrencies, on the 25th of April, before the official adoption of Bitcoin.
On the 7th September 7, El Salvador became the first nation in the world to make Bitcoin its legal tender.
Citizens of El Salvador are allowed to use US dollar along with the cryptocurrency to pay for products and services through 'Chivo' wallet.
It is worth noting that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been critical of the cryptocurrency adoption.
