Hollywood mega-star Keanu Reeves has stated in an interview that he holds cryptocurrency, though the exact type of crypto has not been revealed.
Reeves was interviewed alongside co-star Carrie-Anne Moss as part of a PR campaign to promote their new Matrix movie, 'The Matrix Resurrections', which is due in cinemas shortly. The two have starred together in all of the previous Matrix films as the famous Neo and Trinity respectively.
In the interview, when questioned on cryptocurrency, Reeves said:
"A friend of mine bought some for me awhile back. I haven't had to."
When interviewer Alex Heath said:
"That's called HODL, when you just don't touch your crypto."
Reeves replied:
"Yeah, I have a little HODL."
Warner Brothers Pictures who run the Matrix franchise, have launched 100,000 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as part of the film's launch. Each NFT is based on the red or blue pill concept of the original Matrix and sell for $50 each.
NFTs are digital pieces of art that are purchased in the hope that they will gain value over time. They have been increasing in popularity over recent years and celebrities such as Snoop Dogg, William Shatner, Doja Cat, Tony Hawk, Eminem, and Grimes (ex-wife of Tesla founder and crypto-fanatic Elon Musk) have all gone strongly in on the NFT craze.
Reeves himself does not see what the big hype about NFTs is and even laughed out loud when questioned on them, saying that NFTs, are:
"Easily reproduced."
Both crypto and certain NFTs have ballooned in price over the last few years, as a combination of the financial crisis, public intrigue, celebrity endorsements, and major financial, corporate, and even government agencies around the world, investing heavily in blockchain-based currencies.
Some experts have suggested that crypto can undermine economies due to their limited transactability and their wild fluctuating price changes, while others have stated that the technology could change the world for the better, creating vast new opportunities.
