In an almost unbelievable story, a missing dog has been found 57 miles away, at a home she left 2 years ago. What is more remarkable is that it appears the young dog walked there all by herself!
Cleo, a 4-year-old Labrador, went missing from her new home in Kansas, United States, on the 12th of July. At that time, her owners were distraught with grief and begun a frantic search to find the missing doggo. A few days later, they got a call from a vet telling them that Cleo was thankfully alive and well. She had been traced through the microchip that she had implanted for such eventualities. Bizarrely she was on the porch of her old home, meaning she travelled 57 miles on her own.
Quite how she managed to navigate her way 57 miles, particularly as she had not lived there for 2 years, is unclear. It does mean though that she would have had to cross multiple busy roads, a river and other obstacles to reach her destination.
Colton Michael, who lives in Cleo's old home, said that the dog was at first apprehensive of anyone approaching her. He told TV station KMBC:
"She finds her way home, and there's some strangers living in it. That would be scary for anybody."
Eventually, Mr. Michael managed to get a hold of the dog and take her to a vet where her microchip was scanned. As soon as the scan was complete, and the owner's name appeared on the screen, Mr. Michael recognised them as being the former owners of his home.
Drew, Cleo's owner, expressed his gratitude at having the doge returned, saying:
"It just feels really good to be reunited with her. Really, she's everything to us."
