A Canadian Bookshop Introduces Readers to Adoptable Kittens

Otis & Clementine's Books and Coffee, a bookstore outside of Halifax, Canada, took the initiative to help rescue kittens by encouraging people to adopt them. In 2020, customers visiting the bookstore could come across numerous adorable little kittens roaming around freely. The best part? They can adopt the kittens if they want. And who wouldn't?

Take a look at some irresistibly cute pictures of the little felines below:

Two activities share the same space

The bookshop setting gives the adoption initiative a familiar, welcoming backdrop. The account describes a particular collaboration, rather than a general rule for all bookstores. Its continuing interest is the way an existing community venue made room for another purpose; current animals and adoption arrangements require the organizer's information.

Meeting an animal is the beginning of a decision

The bookshop makes an introduction feel informal, but adoption still concerns the animal’s long-term home and care. The organizer’s process and the potential adopter’s circumstances matter beyond the first affectionate encounter. This archive describes the initiative in 2020, not a promise that particular kittens or arrangements remain available.

The bookshop and its rescue partner

Otis & Clementine’s Books & Coffee is in Upper Tantallon, Nova Scotia, and is owned by Ellen Helmke. Its kittens come from South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia, a local rescue group, and in January 2020 they were being adopted quickly. Helmke has fostered cats at the shop since 2019, an idea she took from a blogger in Philadelphia. The project continued: South Paw works with the Bahamas Humane Society to rehome Bahamian cats in Nova Scotia, and in November 2021, after 13 new cats arrived from the Bahamas, four had already been adopted by local families and nine were roaming the shop waiting for homes.
