Shocking Footage Shows How The Human Lungs Look After 30 Years Of Smoking

A terrifying video revealing the lungs of a heavy smoker has yet again demonstrated how terrible it is to smoke. It's common knowledge that cigarettes are harmful to you. However, there are still people who don't take the right effort to stop smoking. In China, studies published by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention have shown that 26.6% of the population just above 15 years of age smoke. The WHO has repeatedly warned about the consequences of smoking. Nevertheless, there seems to be no respite.

In 2018, a horrifying picture circulated the internet – two lungs placed side by side. One of the lungs was of someone who had never smoked and the other of a smoker. One of the lungs was red while the other looked charcoal black.

Reportedly, due to smoking, lung cancer causes 90 percent of the deaths, COPD causes 80 percent, and heart disease contributes to 17 percent. There've been studies which show that people who smoke die ten years earlier than people who don't.

From the above Chinese statistics, it' is clear that China loves to smoke. However, the heart transplant video will definitely send shivers down your spine. During a transplant, Dr. Chen Jingyu got hold of the lungs of a smoker for thirty years. When the doctor's group at Wuxi People's Hospital saw the lungs, they had to reject it. It didn't matter that the person died of brain death or was kind enough to donate the organs. The organ seems to belong to a man and it was rejected because of bullous lung disease, pulmonary emphysema, and lung calcification. The lungs were black – not the familiar pink we see in Biology books.

Dr. Jingyu mentioned that such is the condition of every heavy smoker's lungs. He warned that such lungs could not be used for organ transplants. For instance, the late person in question here had his oxygenation index tests come out fine. After the harvest, though, the condition of the lungs made the doctors reject it. Since Chinese people love to smoke, the lungs of smokers can be transplanted but there'll be strict standards set. Minor forms of infection and almost clean X-Rays will keep the organ transplantable. Nevertheless, if the condition of the lungs is as shown in the video, it will not be allowed for transplant.
