Australian Firefighters and Animals in the 2020 Charity Calendar

The perfect mix of hotness and kind-hearted softness. Sizzling-hot boys with hearts of gold. There are plenty of ways that one could describe Australian firefighters. Yet the fact of the matter is simple: they are everyday heroes who save lives, do not take off their superhero capes when the fire is out, and stand as an example of how to live your life.

Now once again, the firefighters of Australia are inspiring us to aim for new heights with their six new calendars for 2020. Five of those calendars feature all sorts of animals: from cute puppies and kittens with boopable noses to horses, farm animals, and wildlife. And they’re doing it all for charity. Talk about all-in-one.

A portrait series uses contrast to catch attention

The 2020 calendar pairs firefighters with animals, bringing together a public image of strength and the gentler work of holding or interacting with a small companion. That contrast is the organising idea of the gallery, rather than a claim that every photograph documents an emergency rescue. The images are posed portraits created for a calendar. Reading them that way makes room to appreciate the photographers’ choices and the subjects’ participation without inventing a rescue story for each animal pictured.

Keep the calendar year attached to the cause

A calendar is tied to a particular edition, while an organisation’s charitable partners and sales arrangements can change. The links in the original post identify projects and organisations associated with that period; they should not be treated as a guarantee about where a purchase made today would go. The official calendar site is the appropriate starting point for the edition currently offered. This gallery can stand on its own as a record of the 2020 photographs and their fundraising purpose. Retaining the date and credits makes it useful both to returning readers and to anyone encountering the images for the first time.
