Beautiful Hyperrealistic Paintings Of Migrating Animals That Carry Tiny Ecosystems On Their Backs

Combining her hyperrealistic style with a vivid imagination, artist Lisa Ericson, based in Portland, creates surreal, nature-inspired animal paintings. Every colorful acrylic-on-panel artwork from her beautiful Border Crossing series shows fantastical combinations of plants and animals, all of which appear to be traveling on epic journeys to unknown lands.


Erikson’s work merges topics of animal migration in the wild with human migration as well as the refugee crisis. Each scene reminds us of a tiny version of “Noah’s Ark.”
