Distance makes the figures share a scale

Placing a small figure near the camera can make it appear to interact with a person farther away. The scene becomes convincing when the viewpoint aligns the subjects. Comparing the apparent action with that underlying arrangement turns the gallery into a study of perspective, rather than a claim that the toys were enlarged.

The apparent contact depends on alignment

A toy’s hand can appear to meet a distant person when the camera lines them up. Moving the viewpoint would separate the two again. That makes the chosen angle part of the work, while the recognisable superhero supplies a story the viewer can read immediately.

Who is Wire Hon?

Wire Hon was born in Pahang, Malaysia, and photographs with a smartphone camera. In August 2018 the Malay Mail described how his pictures make Marvel and DC action figures such as Deadpool, Batman, the Hulk, Spider-Man and Captain America look life-size as they interact with cars, fallen trees and swings, and noted that his work had already been featured by Indonesian news portals and Hong Kong photography blogs. Many of the scenes include his wife and son, who appear to boss the superheroes around or end up in odd situations with them.
