While some people struggle to find a pair of socks that match, this coordinated couple from Japan effortlessly match their clothes, and as you can see from these pictures, the resulting outfits are eye-catchingly awesome. They go by the name bonpon511 on Instagram (a combination of their names, plus the date of their wedding anniversary), where they have over 65k followers, and while they might be in their sixties, their eye for fashion is keener than that of somebody half their age. Matching without becoming identical
The charm of these outfits lies in coordination rather than duplication. A shared colour, a repeated pattern or a similar silhouette lets two looks speak to each other while remaining separate. The handle combines their nicknames, Bon and Pon, with their wedding date, 11 May 1980. The following grew remarkably fast, to about 179,000 within days of international coverage in March 2017, and their first book, published by Shufunotomo, cited 560,000 followers; it has since appeared in other languages. Their most inviting idea is still a creative activity a couple can shape together. A shared wardrobe theme can be playful rather than expensive, and it need not become a rule. The photographs remain enjoyable without treating those numbers as current. The pleasure is in choosing something together and enjoying the result, not proving anything about the relationship through a photograph.
