Jacque Fresco, The Mind Behind The Venus Project, Died At Age 101, But His Vision Will Be Remembered

Jacque Fresco, an influence for many and the mind behind The Venus Project, has recently passed away because of Parkinson’s disease, at age 101. Fresco was famous for his innovative ideas and thoughts for a sustainable society. The Venus Project, for example, rejects the current models of mass consumerism and self-destruction and, instead, provides a new model for a resource-based economic system.

Fresco holds many titles, among which educator, architectural designer and concept artist. Nevertheless, his title as a “futurist” is what has offered him the most recognition. For many years, Fresco has envisioned the world running on a socio-cooperation that utilizes the science's methodology and the advancements in technology which makes use of the most energy-efficient systems ever conceptualized.

Born in the 1920’s, in Brooklyn, New York, Fresco experienced first-hand the hardships of The Great Depression. This experience benefited him, but, growing up around poverty, war and devastation is what inspired his later work in life. When he was young, Fresco pursued a career in structural design. Afterward, he worked in many different fields. For instance, in 1942, Fresco served in the Army as a technical designer and produced up to forty designs a day. By age 32, he built the Trend Home, mostly made of aluminum and glass, that gained him access to Hollywood. During the 1950’s, he built and directed Scientific Research Laboratories in Los Angeles. After that, he worked as a creator and designer of science fiction models and special effects.

During his life, Fresco lectured and wrote about topics including sustainable cities, energy efficiency, natural resource management, cybernetic technology, and automation and the role of science in society. In Fresco's idea of society, the monetary system would be ended. In fact, Fresco imagined the world developing to an extent where the level of production is high enough so that scarcity no longer exists. As a result, anything people need would be available with no price tag. Explaining his vision, Fresco stated:

“People don’t really want money, but rather they want access to things when they need it, and people in a society of abundance… will really no longer begin to store and accumulate [unnecessary] things.”

As John Lennon, Fresco had always been a dreamer. His life goals have affected and inspired many people. Therefore, he will be sorely missed. Activists can honor his legacy by fighting for equal access to goods and services as well as promoting the belief that abundance and equal chances for all isn't out of reach.

  3. My husband is 80 years and has been suffering from PD for the past 15 years. Lately he started hallucinating and I didn't know how to handle the situation. He cannot sleep and tried to find and catch the imaginary people who he thinks are real. he was taken Entacapone with Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Pramipexole and started physical therapy to strengthen muscles. nothing was really working to help his condition.I took him off the Siferol (with the doctor’s knowledge) and started him on parkinson’s herbal formula i ordered from Health Herbal Clinic, his symptoms totally declined over a 5 weeks use of the Parkinsons disease natural herbal formula.i read reviews from other previous patients who used the herbal formula, my husband is now active, he can now go about daily exercise!! his symptoms so much reduced that now I hardly notice them.Visit there website www.healthherbalclinicc.weebly.com or email [email protected]
