Brian Coldrick, an Irish illustrator, has created a series of one-panel illustrations and GIFs in his book named “Behind You: One-Shot Horror Stories.”

Every image depicts a monster hiding in arms reach, with darkly humorous one-sentence captions. Coldrick says that even though none of his short tales are adaptations of existing horror stories, they touch on “well-worn horror tropes.”
