Bully a plant is a live social experiment with two IKEA plants and with the participation of thousands of children, to raise awareness around Anti-Bullying Day on 4 May in the Middle East.
The experiment involved IKEA taking two of its plants and installing them at a school, where students had to feed the one plant compliments and words of encouragement and bully the other with hateful words. The students recorded their voices to share their love and affection with the first plant while giving words of criticism to the second. They did that either first hand or via social media interaction. After a month, the results spoke for themselves: the complimented plant continued to thrive, while the bullied plant was struggling, and looking dull with its droopy brown leaves.
Both plants were watered strictly with the same amount of water and also exposed to sunlight and fertilizer. The only difference being was the words: either words of criticism to the one plant or words of encouragement to the other, for 30 days. By the end of the live experiment, the incredible results spoke for themselves.
