Last year, 28-year-old Aditya Tiwari raised plenty of eyebrows when he took advantage of a new regulation in India and adopted a child with special needs. The software engineer knew that he was ready to be a father, therefore, welcomed Binni, a child with down syndrome, into his life.
According to Business Insider, Tiwari had persevered for some time to adopt, and finally was able to do so when the country lowered the age limit for single adoptive parents to 25 years. This story, however, isn’t about how he became a father, but how he became a husband and used the ceremony as a means to lavishly dote on others.
On July 16, Tiwari tied the knot with his new wife Arpita in a not-so-typical marriage ceremony. The Hindustan Times relays that “10,000 homeless people and children from orphanages, more than 1,000 stray and zoo animals” were invited to the celebration feast.
Before the wedding took place, Tiwari commented:
“People tend to spend lakhs of rupees on their marriage by hiring disk jockeys, on decorations and lavish menu but I do not want to do the same. As it is one of the happiest days of my life, I want to include people who never get any invitations like children from orphanages, homeless and poor people.”

Because only the couple’s immediate family were joining the celebration, the newlyweds decided to gift books and various medicines as return gifts for all those who attended.
Adoption is still not respected or understood by many citizens in Indian society. For this reason, Tiwari was looked down on by many. Some even ridiculed him, stating that no one should take his hand in marriage.
Luckily, he found true love in Arpita, who he’s known for 15 years. According to the engineer, the reason their marriage works is because his new wife loves Binni just as much as he does.
He told the press:
“I am glad I found her and she dotes on Avneesh more than I do.”

The couple isn’t the first to use their celebration feast as an excuse to help others, but this story certainly is unique and worth sharing.
