Pregnant Women Have Their Nails Painted With Their Ultrasound Pictures, And It's Amazing

From announcing a pregnancy to taking maternity pictures and hosting elaborate baby showers as well as gender-reveal parties — future moms are getting more and more creative with how they commemorate all it means to be expecting. Ultrasound nail art is the latest incredible trend to pop up on Instagram, so if you are looking for a unique way to acknowledge your little one, you will want to make sure this manicure is on your radar.

It is uncertain how the trend began, but tiny versions of ultrasound pictures painted onto nails have been popping up on Instagram recently. The oldest picture dates back to 2016 when Instagram user @ladii_steel credited Toronto’s Hard Rock Nails for featuring an ultrasound photograph on her nails just in time for her baby shower:

In 2017, the @nailsbysara Instagram page featured the manicure as an adorable way to pay tribute to a baby which never came to be. The heartwarming post read:

“After three years and numerous fertility treatments, my hubby and I finally conceived in April. On May 30, my heart was broken when I found out my baby was no longer living and growing, and he was taken from me the next day. I lost all inspiration as I struggled with the grief. I learned how to love him and his brief life and move forward with renewed hope. I love you jelly bean, and seeing you on my nails makes me smile.”

This manicure has been a long time coming. After three years and numerous fertility treatments, my hubby and I finally conceived in April. An iHeartRadio article credits another Nails by Sarah social media account for beginning the trend after a manicure was posted to Facebook and shared over 44,000 times:

No matter how this touching trend came to be, there is no denying that mothers are beginning to consider ultrasound nail art when announcing their pregnancies and generally showing off their mom-to-be pride.

While this is indeed a different approach to displaying an ultrasound photo, you cannot blame moms for showing off their babies in any way possible. Plus, you have to admit that these manicures are stunning from an artistic standpoint.

Instagram account @salongrecreate shows how pretty the black-and-white ultrasound nails can be when coupled with a light pink polish:

The ultrasound photo can be used as an accent nail on a mother’s ring finger too, as @euro_nails_tx says on her Instagram page:

Hui Hensley, the artist behind the @lovelily_official Instagram account told NBC’s “Today” that she has been receiving several requests for ultrasound nail art for a few months now.

The artist behind the @catchtheinspiration Instagram account also proves what impressive keepsakes ultrasound art can make:

Many thanks to all of you for your lovely comments, and great interest in my baby ultrasound embroidery. Moreover, I am very grateful for all of your support at these last days of my pregnancy and sharing your valuable experiences!❤️🙏🏻 Finally, I have created a waiting list that I will start to accept orders by January. While nail art may not be as long-lasting as other forms of art — it is just as memorable. So, what do you think of this great new manicure trend for future moms?
