Heart-Warming Video Depicts A Woman Reuniting With Two Chimpanzees After 25 Years

Chimpanzees are great apes (not monkeys) that are native to Africa's continent.

If you ever wonder if you're looking at an ape or a monkey, you just have to look for a tail.

Monkeys have tails, while apes: chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, gibbons, bonobos, and humans – do not.

Bonobos and chimpanzees are our closest living relatives.

We share approximately 98 percent of our DNA with chimps, so it’s fair to say that chimps are 98 percent human, and we are 98 percent chimpanzee.

Chimpanzees are also on the list of endangered species along with many other animals.

Millions of chimpanzees lived throughout Africa from southern Senegal through Central Africa to western Tanzania. That's an area approximately the size of the US.

The IUCN estimates that between 170,000 and 300,000 chimps remain in the wild.

One recent census in the Ivory Coast revealed that the chimp population there had decreased by 90 percent in just the past twenty years.

Twenty-five years ago Linda Koebner was a part of a program which focused on getting several lab chimps reintroduced to the wild.

During her work, she befriended two chimpanzees, Doll and Swing, that were locked for years in behind bars.

Linda has recently decided to pay a visit to her old friends and see if they'd remember her.

The resulting emotional video became the award-winning film Wisdom of the Wild, and it will make you cry!
