French Footballer Kylian Mbappé Donated World Cup Earnings To Children With Disabilities

One of the most dynamic current footballers of France decided to take his victory money and pay it forward.

Kylian Mbappé, a 19-year-old powerhouse that scored four goals in 2018 as France smashed the World Cup, has recently announced that he'll donate all of his earnings from the recent tournament to Premiers de Cordée, an organization which provides free sports instruction to hospitalized children and children with disabilities, as well as campaigns on disability awareness with schools and businesses, according to USA Today.

“Kylian, he's a great person,” Sebastien Ruffin, general manager of Premiers de Cordée, told Le Parisien, a French news outlet. “When his schedule allows it, he intervenes for us with pleasure. He has a very good [relationship] with children; he always finds the right [words] to encourage them. I sometimes even feel that [he] takes more pleasure to play with the kids than the kids themselves.”

Mbappé was rewarded a £265,000 bonus (or approximately $350,000) after defeating Croatia 4-2, according to Sports Illustrated.

He did not have to think long on where to contribute his funds — Mbappé has been supporting Premiers de Cordée since 2017, by giving all his match fees to this particular charity, amounts totaling to £17,000 per game, based on statements from the French newspaper L’Equipe.

The footballer, born in Paris, is the son of immigrants. His father, Wilfried Mbappé, is from Cameroon and his mother, Fayza Lamari, is from Algeria.

Recognized by ESPN as the “future king of soccer” Mbappé has been followed on the field as well as his generous gestures off of it during the World Cup.

The vast amount of media coverage regarding his work with nonprofits allowed other athletes’ good deeds to get noticed as well.

The England national team has donated 100 percent of their match fees directly to the England Footballers Foundation since 2007, according to a statement forwarded to Global Citizen by the EFF. Therefore, the players have raised more than £5 million for the charity, supporting a diverse range of organizations like UNICEF, Help for Heroes, and many more.
