Which are the basic theories about the establishment and the secrets of this organization, that dominated Europe in the 18th century and spread to the USA?
The only purpose of the Illuminati was to discover and serve the real knowledge that's hidden from common people. They didn't want to conquer the world. At least, that's what they claimed.
The most well known and - at the same time - mysterious brotherhood-organization was established in Bavaria in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, in order to discover all the secrets of the world. The members of the brotherhood were against the superstitions that other people believed during that period of time. They were also against the authority.
The first members of the brotherhood were only 5 despite the fact that they had a potent masonic basis. The members had decided to name their team as Perfectibilists, however, Illuminati seemed better for their purpose.
At first, the Illuminati had three leaders: Adam Weishaupt, a 20-year-old doctor and a 24-year-old professor. The last two were called "brother Spartacus" as the mythical warrior
Soon the organization became really famous and gained members from all over Europe. During its 10-year official existence, the members of the organization reached the 2,000, many of whom came from the upper classes.
Most members of the brotherhood used to be intellectuals who came from upper classes. Some of the most well known members were the prince of Salzburg and Gottfried van Servieten, the lord that Mozart and Joseph Haydn used to serve.
A new law of 1783 forbade the existence of all secret brotherhoods and organizations in Bavaria, which led to Illuminati's dissolution. Adam Weishaupt, then, left the country.
The original symbol of the organization, that was a supporter of true knowledge, was the Owl of Greek Goddess Athena - and not the eye in the masonic pyramid. The organization chose the Owl because it symbolizes wisdom but also the ability to see in the dark.
In 1797 and 1798 two books were published; they claimed that the organization of the Illuminati wasn't dissolved and that it continued its action secretly. In addition, the books mentioned that the Illuminati were responsible for the French Revolution's outbreak.
During the 19th century, conspiracy theories about Illuminati became really well known in the USA too. While the organization gained more and more members from the USA, many religious organizations were fighting against Illuminati.
There are many contemporary organizations who claim that they are the new Illuminati. However, this has not been proven. At the same time, many members join these organizations.
